After laying her eggs the female loggerhead turtle returns to the sea. The hatchlings are on their own even before the are born! On Tybee Island, we have dedicated people that search for these nest, rope them off, and assist the hatchlings when needed. You can find loggerhead nests along the east coast at various islands/beaches such as Tybee and St Simons and Hilton Head. If you should run across a nest during your vacation, it is important the nest not be disturbed. Hope you are around to enjoy seeing the hatchlings experience their first day and head to the ocean.
